11 Jan

The Social Studies 10 students watched this video this week and we discussed what makes a great leader? This video explains the concept behind TOMS shoes. It reminds us that one person with one simple idea can lead many people to follow them in hopes of promoting positive changes in our world. Leaders come in all shapes and sizes. Some lead countries. Some lead just a few people. Some have the led the way for great change in our world. Leadership is an amazing quality to have or to aspire to.Remember, you don’t have to be rich or famous to be a leader. Anyone can be take on the role. It only takes initiative and positive action. What else do YOU think it takes to be a successful and positive leader?

This is one of those videos that toys with your emotional strings. It shows kids with sad faces that make you want to cry, and then with shoes, they become happy. It’s true that this stuff happens, I get it, but it’s also a very clever marketing strategy no matter how old and used it’s become. Good marketing, Toms.

I agree with you, it is a smart marketing strategy. What do you think would be the response if more companies used their power and influence to help others, while still making a profit? Does this campaign make you want to buy their product?

It would be the start of a cruel giving race. Everyone wants to give their products to the poor, just to look desirable. And no, this video does not make me want to buy the product. I’m the type of person who cares about the product itself, not these promotional videos and ad and commercials.

When it says that “you can make a difference, one shoe at a time ” people want to feel like there part of something big, or if it actually does something to a good cause. People wouldn’t buy it if it says you mite make a difference. So if i was a leader I would tell them there making a difference too.

I like the idea of giving shoes. It will make what they do everyday a little bit easier wether its working or going to school. But what I really think we should be doing is employing people in Africa so that they can meet the needs of their family.

I agree that it would be nice if we could do more for people, like helping to create more jobs. Luckily there are people who have been very involved in helping men and women to start up small businesses in rural communities in Africa. There are also opportunities to donate to charities in Africa who help families buy farm animals or seeds to plant crops. This helps them to sell their products.

its such a wonderful thing to give all these people a pair of shoes and although they are just shoes to us, to them they are a bigger thing, that will help them work, walk, and all sorts of stuff that we may take for granted
